Myths

A lot of skincare advice gets repeated like it is fact. Here is what is actually true.

Natural fragrances are always better than synthetic. THE TRUTH

Just because something comes from nature, doesn't mean it's good for you. Some natural fragrances are great. Others contain allergens that can irritate your skin. In many cases, synthetic fragrances are actually safer and better for your skin. Since they're made in a lab, we control everything that goes into them. That means we can be certain there are no irritants. We understand that many people, especially those with sensitive skin, are cautious about what types of fragrance they use. That's a good thing! We take serious precautions too. Every single ingredient we use goes through strict regulatory and performance testing before we put it in our products. We also submit our products to third-party clinical testing for extra assurance that they're safe and won't irritate your skin.

If it works for someone else it will definitely work for you too. THE TRUTH

Everyone's skin is different. Your genetics, age, and even lifestyle factors like your diet can affect how your skin reacts to certain ingredients. So, a product that moisturizes one person's skin could irritate someone else's.

If you can't pronounce it you shouldn't use it. THE TRUTH

A lot of safe, effective ingredients have scientific names that can be hard to pronounce. That doesn't mean they're bad for you! For example: Can you say Butyrospermum Parkii three times fast? Probably not. But that just means shea butter.

Your skin absorbs everything you put on it. THE TRUTH

Your skin is a protective barrier, not a sponge. It has three thick layers that act like a series of barricades. For something to breach all three, its molecules need to be very, very small. Specific ingredients can be designed for that purpose, but most skincare products are not. They stay on top of your skin and don't get anywhere near your bloodstream.

If you have oily skin you don't need to moisturize. THE TRUTH

All skin needs moisture. If your skin doesn't get enough, it will try to compensate by producing more oil. Exactly what you don't want. The best products for oily skin are those that remove excess oil without being overly stripping (like our body soaps). That way, your skin doesn't panic and produce more oil, and you don't feel like a grease ball.

You should only use products that are chemical free. THE TRUTH

The word chemical is misunderstood. It's often used (incorrectly) to describe something that's dangerous or bad for you. In reality, everything you can touch is made from chemicals. Dirt, air, water, even your skin. All chemicals. So not only is this a myth, it's also impossible.
